GYMPIE WEB SITES - SEO Tips
The SEO Tips section has been developed to provide some helpful Search Engine Optimisation tips and recommendations (but obviously our special SEO secrets are reserved for our clients).
Our top Website Selections for
At Gympie Websites and Cooloolabusiness.com Internet Business Directory, we undertake R & D to ensure our current SEO activities are maintained up to date with the latest information available from World recognised experts including Jerry West of Web Marketing Now. We use this information when developing and enhancing our network of sites and client websites.
Without disclosing our special SEO secrets, we are developing a list of more generalised tips and recommendations for website optimisation that will improve your search engine rankings.
These tips are listed here (in no particular order of importance)
- Metatags - ensure your site has a Title, Description and keyword metatag. You may read that Google does not read/use these tags apart from the title tag but nobody knows for sure (and Google isn't telling). We know that smaller search engines do rely on these tags and will reject sites without them.
- Keyword Density - It is important that your keyword phrase is included in your page text at the correct density (Google isn't telling and we are not specifying what we use either).
- Absolute/Relative Website Links - your website should have a mix of relative and absolute links. Read more about absolute and relative links here.
- Back Links - These are links where other websites link to your websites. It is important to obtain links from other sites but these should be from sites that are related to your site e.g. a real estate website might be related to a conveyancing website but would not be related to motor vehicle manufacturers site to give you an idea.
- Search Engine Submissions and Directory Registration - it is important to submit your sites to search engines and directories as these will provide you with links to your site. Some are much more valuable than others e.g. www.dmoz.org is important to Google rankings (if you can get your site listed). We use a proprietary search engine and directory list from Jerry West as he has a team of researchers employed to study search engine indexing. We can also suggest that you subscribe to the ISEDB newsletter at http://www.isedb.com which provides a free source of information listing directories that accept submissions
- Page Content. It is important to provide sufficient text on your pages to enable the search engine spider software to "read" and make a proper assessment of the content/subject/theme of your site.
- Splash Pages, Flash Movies and Images - Google spiders may or may not be able to read Flash files etc., they can't read images and are giving less importance to Alt Image tags. Why would you use these features when they just make it more difficult for the spiders to index your site. We don't suggest to remove them from your site or cease using them, just review the page and make sure that there is sufficient text available for the spiders to properly index the page.
- Page Code Validation - it is also important that your website has valid HTML code and a DTD declaration. The easiest way to do this is use an online validator to ensure the site meets W3C specifications. We use several different tools to verify validation for our new sites.
- CSS Coding. We use CSS coding in external stylesheets to remove un-necessary formatting code from the page to ensure that the spider software only has to "digest" the page information that is pertinent to page indexing (not repeated lines of font and colour coding etc).
- Page Structure - Ensure that the HTML code used in the page has the correct structure using "H" tags correctly to emphasise the important parts of the page (that you want the Google spider to take notice of).
- Page Readability and User-Friendliness - try and layout your page in an orderly structure that makes it obvious to a human reader which parts are important using titles and sub-titles etc. If the page is easy to read for a human, it will be most likely easy for the Google spider to assess as well.
